University of Sharjah's faculty members announced the launch of the 10th Annual University Scientific Research Forum on Tuesday.
His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah will attend the forum that will take place May 16 at Al Zuhri Hall at the University of Sharjah.
The forum, which will be held under the theme 'Towards Research Integration and Innovation,' will allow 40 undergraduates and postgraduates from various fields to showcase their senior scientific projects.
Three students from each group will be rewarded with cash prizes of Dh2,000, Dh1,500 and Dh1,000, Professor Abdul Kadir Hamid from the College of Engineering told Khaleej Times. The one-day event will see projects from different fields including engineering, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences, law and communications.
Chancellor Prof. Hamid Al Naimiy said a committee will evaluate projects depending on their uniqueness, innovation and marketability. He added that this year's forum will take on a bigger scale since the university recently established three institutes for medical research; science and engineering research; and humanities and social sciences research.
Eleven centres of excellence for various disciplines and colleges were also founded, he noted. "Serving the community on a regional, or even international, scale is the main goal. Our research council has partnered with international higher institutes with the aim to upgrade scientific research," said Al Naimiy.
A number of faculty members will also be honuored for their scientific achievements and community services.
