UAE trucks deliver 6,775 tonnes of Gaza aid since reopening of border crossings

A total of 325 UAE trucks carrying 6,775 tonnes of aid have entered Gaza since the reopening of border crossings, against the backdrop of a deepening humanitarian crisis in the Strip.

On Friday, the United Nations officially declared a famine in Gaza, the first in the Middle East, with its experts saying 500,000 people were facing "catastrophic" hunger.

UN aid chief Tom Fletcher said the famine was entirely preventable, saying food could not get through to the Palestinian territory "because of systematic obstruction by Israel".

In response, Israel's foreign ministry immediately hit back, saying "there is no famine in Gaza".

Unwavering commitment

The UAE remains firmly committed to supporting the Palestinian people, striving to ease the impact of the current situation and standing in solidarity with families in Gaza.

A UAE humanitarian relief team is stationed in the Egyptian city of Al Arish to supervise the meticulous loading of aid shipments, oversee their transfer through the Rafah border crossing, and ensure their delivery to beneficiaries inside Gaza.

Four convoys carrying diverse humanitarian aid from the UAE crossed into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing in Egypt last week, as part of UAE’s humanitarian 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3'.

The convoys consisted of 76 trucks transporting more than 1,419 tonnes of aid, including food supplies, medical items, shelter materials, and desalination equipment.

Last month, UN reports said that with its tri-modal delivery system, by land, sea, and air, the UAE's aid to Gaza constitutes 44 per cent of total international aid to date.
