UAE teen, German tourist killed in accidents

AJMAN — An Emirati teenager and a German tourist were killed and two others were injured in two separate road accidents yesterday, one in Ajman and the other in Fujairah.

The Emirati teenager died on the spot and two Arab nationals sustained serious injuries in a horrific road accident on Shaikh Maktoum Road in Ajman yesterday, police said.

Humaid S., 16, who was killed in the accident, was on the driver’s seat. The two injured, riding in the same car, were rushed to Khalifa Hospital where they are admitted in the ICU. Brig. Ali Saeed Al Matroushi, head of the Accidents and Licensing Section at the Traffic Police Department of Ajman, told Khaleej Times that the injured passengers, one of whom is 18 and the other is 23 years old, were not holding any documents. The 16-year-old who was driving the car did not even have a valid licence as he was a minor.


The accident happened when the teenager lost control of the car due to speeding. The car swerved to the opposite direction and then turned over several times. The driver and the two passengers were not wearing seat belts and they were all thrown out of the car.

The official said the car was completely damaged in the accident.

In Fuhairah, a German tourist died after she was hit by a vehicle driven by a UAE national.

The accident happened while she was crossing the street on Dibba-Masafi Road in Mesad Al Ghala area.

The body of the tourist, identified as A.A., was shifted to Fujairah hospital.

The driver of the car has been arrested by the police and investigations are on.
