Light rain and cloudy skies across parts of the UAE this week brought a sense of calm to many residents, offering a welcome change in weather during the holy month of Ramadan.

The rainfall also arrived during a tense period for the country. Earlier this week, the UAE mourned the loss of two pilots who died in a helicopter crash while carrying out their national duties. At the same time, the Ministry of Defence reported that air defences had intercepted multiple missiles and drones targeting the country — developments that left many residents reflecting on the importance of security and the sacrifices made to protect it.

Against that backdrop, the rain offered many residents a moment to pause, gather with loved ones and find comfort in the cooler weather.

For Qasaied Al Tamimi, a UAE resident, rain carries deep emotional significance, particularly across the Gulf region, where rainfall is relatively rare.

“I think there is something about Arabs, especially in the GCC, where we experience rain in a deeply sentimental way compared to many other places in the world,” she said. “For me, rain always feels like a spiritual reset. It pushes me to reflect, to be better, and to try harder. There’s something incredibly comforting about it.”

The rain also felt particularly meaningful during Ramadan, when many residents gather nightly for prayers and reflection.

“I have been praying Taraweeh with my friends every day. It has been very grounding given what has been happening,” Al Tamimi said. “The rain came at just the right time. It washes the heart from the sorrow that such news brings.”

She added that the moment encouraged her to pray for those who serve the country and their families.

“I pray for the martyrs and their families to find peace,” she said.

For other residents, the rain simply brought a welcome break from the tense atmosphere of the past week.

Amani Musbah said the cooler weather made a noticeable difference to her day as she ran errands.

“The weather was very nice and we really enjoyed it, away from the tense atmosphere,” she said. “We were actually out finishing some errands in the car, but we still enjoyed the moment.”

She added that the lingering clouds created pleasant conditions for spending time outdoors with family.

“Even now the weather is still cloudy, which is perfect for gatherings outside with family,” she said, noting that during Ramadan, many residents continue to pray for stability and well-being for the country.

UAE resident Khawla Mohammad said the rain also prompted reflection among many families, particularly because rainfall during Ramadan is uncommon.

“We were very happy when the rain came,” she said, explaining that the cooler weather created a calm atmosphere that made fasting easier and lifted people’s spirits.

She added that rainfall often encourages people to turn more toward prayer and gratitude.

“When it rains, people feel their prayers may be answered, so we find ourselves praying more for our country, for peace and safety,” she said

Khawla noted that the combination of Ramadan and rainfall prompted many residents to reflect on their blessings, particularly the security and stability in the UAE.

As clouds lingered and temperatures dipped slightly across parts of the country, residents said the brief rainstorm served as a reminder to slow down, reflect and appreciate moments of calm amid a challenging week.
