The UAE has issued a travel advisory on Friday following heavy rains in the Indian state of Kerala.
In a series of tweets, the UAE Consulate in Kerala advised its citizens in the Indian state to exercise caution and to follow any safety instructions issued by local authorities. Citizens are also urged to contact the consulate in the event of an emergency. Citizens can get in touch with the consulate via the following numbers: 00919087777737 or 80044444.
Earlier, officials reported that eight people, including a one-year-old child, were killed and over 3,000 evacuated to over 60 relief camps after rains battered several parts of Kerala. State Revenue Minister E. Chandrashekeran said Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, Kasargode and Idukki districts were the worst affected areas.

The heavy rains also prompted the closure of Kochi International Airport on Friday. The decision to close the airport has affected the travel plans of expats in the UAE who had booked tickets for the long weekend. Airport will resume operations at 3pm on Sunday.
