A motorist was arrested in Sharjah for causing a collision that involved 3 vehicles, and later fleeing the scene, in a horrific incident that did not result in any injuries among the drivers.

Hit-and-run cases are considered a serious offence in the UAE, and authorities in Sharjah rushed to apprehend the driver who was caught in less than six hours, the emirate's police said.

Smart systems and surveillance camera networks helped identify the vehicle and track the driver who caused the accident on Sharjah's Airport Road.

In the 41-second clip, a white pick-up truck is seen suddenly swerving across lanes on the highway and crashing into another vehicle, which, due to the force of the impact, collides with a third car on its left.

The driver of the white truck then accelerates and flees the scene — a blatant violation of UAE traffic laws and regulations.

"Failing to stay in one's lane is one of the main causes of traffic accidents, due to the serious risks it poses, which can result in severe injuries — especially when such behavior occurs on highways where speeds reach up to 120 km/h", said Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Alai, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police.
