UAE expresses confidence in World Court legal proceedings ahead of May 5 ruling on Sudan’s case
The case, filed by Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF), accuses the UAE of violating the Genocide Convention by allegedly arming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF)

As the International Court of Justice (ICJ) prepares to deliver its ruling on a case filed by Sudan against the UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) expressed its confidence in country's position.
Reem Ketait, deputy assistant minister for Political Affairs at the Mofa, reaffirmed the UAE’s "commitment to international law" and its "full respect for the ICJ."

In a statement sent to Khaleej Times on Sunday, Ketait emphasised that the UAE is confident that the facts and law firmly support its stance. The ICJ is set to deliver its decision on Monday regarding the case filed by Sudan.

“Tomorrow (May 5), the ICJ is expected to deliver its decision regarding the case. The UAE reaffirms its full respect for the Court and its commitment to international law.
“As a responsible member of the international community, the UAE is engaging with these proceedings in good faith, confident that the facts and the law firmly support our position.”
The case, filed by Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF), accuses the UAE of violating the Genocide Convention by allegedly arming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). However, the UAE has strongly rejected these claims.
“The case is baseless both legally and factually. The UAE is not involved in the war, and this case is yet another attempt by the SAF, one of the warring parties, to distract from its own responsibility," Ketait stated.
She pointed to two recent developments that, according to her, further discredit the SAF’s accusations.
“The UN Panel of Experts latest report on Sudan was released on April 29. The report is clear. There are no findings against the UAE, and the report does not substantiate any of the allegations made against the UAE. In fact, the report mentions the UAE just three times: as a country visited by the Panel, observer in the Geneva talks, and our offer to mediate for peace which have been rejected by the SAF.
Additionally, Ketait highlighted an operation on April 30 in which the UAE successfully foiled an attempt to illegally transfer weapons and military equipment to the SAF. The operation led to the arrest of a Sudanese cell linked to SAF leader General Al-Burhan and the seizure of 5 million rounds of "7.54 x 62 mm Goryunov-type ammunition".
Ketait stressed that the SAF had yet to provide any credible evidence for their allegations and claimed that the accusations were a deliberate "attempt to divert attention from their own brutal record of atrocities against Sudanese civilians".
End the violence
The UAE reiterated its call for “the pursuit of peace, stability, and development for Sudan and the wider region”
“Both the SAF and RSF have refused to engage in meaningful negotiations, blocked humanitarian assistance, committed atrocities against civilians, and continue to fuel the conflict. Responsibility for prolonging this conflict rests on them," Ketait noted.
She underscored: “Our primary focus remains where it should be: on ending the violence, alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, and fostering a lasting, inclusive peace through civilian-led process.
The contrast with those using the ICJ as a platform for political theatre is stark. We remain unwavering in our commitment to the pursuit of peace, stability, and development for Sudan and the wider region.”
