Amid the ongoing exchange of accusations between the UAE and Sudan, the UAE has condemned the representative of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for spreading misinformation by exploiting the UN Security Council and its platforms, the UAE Mission to United Nations said in a strongly worded statement.
This comes after the UAE rejected Sudan's allegations at the International Court of Justice and labelled them as "misleading" and "pure fabrications". The rejection followed after the ICJ, in The Hague, on April 10, started public hearings into the case filed by the Sudanese Armed Forces against the UAE.
Sudanese Armed forces accused the UAE of violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention regarding the attacks launched by the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces and allied factions against the Masalit ethnic group in West Darfur.

In an official letter to the Council, the UAE stressed that attempts to distort the findings of the UN Panel of Experts report to support the SAF's "disinformation campaign" are "completely unacceptable and cannot be condoned".
On April 29, Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, pointed out the SAF's "systematic disinformation campaign" against the UAE that aims to "evade responsibility" for their own actions.
Analysts believe that this case, which lacks evidence and proof, is a feeble attempt by the Sudanese Armed Forces, one of the parties to the conflict, to distract from their culpability in the conflict, which has claimed the lives tens of thousands, displaced millions of Sudanese people, and triggered famine in large parts of the country.
The letter underscores the international community's grave concern over the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the narratives that accompany it.
The mission further stated: "The Security Council must not allow its forum to be misused or the content of its reports to be distorted."
The letter also made clear that the primary focus must be on achieving a lasting cessation of hostilities and addressing the urgent humanitarian crisis affecting the Sudanese people.
Sudan's 'disinformation campaign'
In a letter to the UN Security Council, Mohamed Abushahab, the Permanent Representative of the UAE, said the SAF insisted on misusing international fora to spread misinformation against the UAE.
He said the representative had misrepresented the reports and findings of the Panel of Experts by "publicising confidential reporting to the Committee, thus undermining the processes and integrity of sanctions monitoring mechanisms as well as of the Security Council".
Additionally, the letter stated the representative selectively disseminated extracts that were taken out of context to misleadingly advance the SAF's narrative and intentionally omit elements or findings therein that either contradict or do not confirm his allegations.
Furthermore, Abushahab added that the representative misrepresented the findings in a report of the Panel of Experts prior to its publication as a document of the Security Council.
UAE's response
The letters stated that contrary to the misrepresentations of the Sudanese representative, the report makes no findings against the UAE.
"The UAE further notes that the final report does not substantiate the allegations of the Sudanese representative. The UAE has been unequivocal: it has not and is not providing support or supplies to any of the warring parties in Sudan since the outbreak of the civil war in April 2023," read the statement.
"Regrettably, the delay in the publication of the report allowed the Sudanese representative to repeatedly misrepresent its content. The UAE urges the Security Council to take all necessary measures to ensure that such delays do not occur in the future," it added.
UAE's efforts
The letter stated the UAE continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. "In this vein, the UAE recently participated in the London Sudan Conference and engaged actively and in good faith to support a transition towards an independent, civilian-led government in Sudan and reversing the 2021 military coup," wrote Abushahab.
Over the past decade, the UAE has provided more than USD 3.5 billion in aid to the Sudanese people. Since the outbreak of the civil war in 2023, the UAE has committed more than USD 600 million in humanitarian aid and dispatched 162 relief flights, delivering more than 12,000 tons of food, medical, and relief supplies.
"For its part, the UAE's support for the people of Sudan will not waver. The UAE will continue working closely with partners to advance concrete and collective action to build a peaceful, unified, and hopeful future for the country," added the representative.
