Two stand trial for killing taxi driver in Sharjah

Sharjah - The duo, charged with premeditated murder, confessed to deliberately stabbing the cabbie to death

The Sharjah Criminal Court on Sunday heard a murder case involving two Asian men who killed a taxi driver in industrial area 6.
The judge adjourned the case to a February date, to allow the victim's parents to decide if they wanted the 'qasas' verdict or pardon the two accused and receive blood money.
The two Asian accused urged the court to grant them a grace period to seek pardon from the victim's family.
The duo, charged with premeditated murder, confessed to deliberately stabbing the cabbie to death and bundling his body into the trunk of his car. The victim's brother, on trying to contact his brother and not getting any response, got worried and informed the police, who managed to locate the driver's car. They then found his body in the trunk.
The victim's brother, who was present at the court hearing, said that he did not know the two defendants or the cause of the crime. He also asked the court for time to bring his father to the country on a visit visa, so he could attend the trial of his son's killers.
The judge asked the victim's brother to bring his request for either a retribution or pardon, translated into Arabic and certified as per the procedures. The case was adjourned to allow the victim's family to process the documents.
