Mohammad Al-Qudsi, the TV anchor who was the first to announce the establishment of the United Arab Emirates in 1971, passed away on Thursday, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

The Syrian-born Al-Qudsi was among the few media figures who witnessed the historic announcement of the Union and the raising of the national flag at the Guest Palace in Dubai.
