Presided over by prominent Pakistani poet and playwright Amjad Islam Amjad, the meeting paid rich tributes to Malik Museeb for his sterling contribution to Urdu literary culture through his literary society, Majlis-Farogh-e-Urdu Adab, Doha-Dubai.
“Malik Museeb will always be missed for his dedication to the cause of Urdu and promotion of a refined literary taste through international Urdu mushairas and prestigious prizes for men of letters,” Ch. Abdul Hameed, Pakistan's Consul-General in Dubai, who was chief guest, told the audience. “He made Herculean efforts to keep his mission going even in great difficulty.”
Amjad said that Malik Museeb was a selfless and sincere person who was in love with Urdu. He shunned every opportunity of self-projection and completely devoted himself to promoting the understanding of Urdu poetry and culture. “Following the tradition of Dubai's Saleem Jafri, Malik Museeb tried to project and protect the common literary heritage of the subcontinent through his mushairas which attracted top poets and lyricists from Pakistan, India and other countries,” he said.
Amjad also recited a poem in memory of Malik Museeb.
Shahida Jafri, chief of the Dubai chapter of the Majlis-e-Farogh-e-Urdu Adab, said that Malik Museeb kept the flag of international Urdu mushaira flying in the Gulf after the death of Saleem Jafri and the institution of the Saleem Jafri International Award was itself a tribute to the effort of the people engaged in the promotion of Urdu abroad.
Others who spoke included N.H. Rizvi and Malik Mohammed Aslam.
Malik Museeb had instituted two prestigious prizes - Majlis-e-Farogh-e-Urdu Adab Alami Award and Saleem Jafri International Award.
