Since Sharjah starting implementing a law regulating lane usage in the emirate on November 1, the police have recorded over 30,000 violations for non-compliance with designated routes.

The law defines specific lanes for delivery bikes, heavy vehicles, motorcycles and buses. It was introduced to enhance safety on the roads.

The far-right lane is reserved for heavy vehicles and buses. Motorbike riders are not allowed to use the far-left fast lanes, but may ride on the two right-most lanes on four-lane roads. On three-lane roads, they can use the middle or right lane, and only the right lane on two-lane roads, in accordance with traffic regulations.

The violations recorded resulted in a fine of Dh1,500 and 12 black points for heavy vehicles for not adhering to the designated lanes, as well as an additional fine of Dh500 for not following traffic signs and rules.
