The repair work of one of Dubai’s busiest highways is almost complete, the Roads and Transport Authority announced on Thursday. The RTA has been working on restructuring and resurfacing a 14-kilometre stretch on Emirates Road, which will be complete by August 25, the day new school year is set to begin.

The repair work, which includes rehabilitating slow and fast lanes, is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road quality, and boost safety for all users, the RTA said in a post on X.

The RTA has been working for the past two months on the project. It is being completed in stages to avoid major traffic disruptions.

“Every 48 to 56 hours, we finish one leg of the reconstruction, covering about 400 to 500 metres of road. By August 25, both sides of the highway will be open, ensuring a smoother flow of traffic,” Abdullah Lootah, director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at the Traffic and Roads Agency, told Khaleej Times earlier this month.

The decision to reconstruct the road came after inspection vehicles detected a drop in the Pavement Quality Index (PQI) to around 85 per cent in some sections, mainly due to heavy truck traffic.
