Dubai Police have taken action against 90 individuals and confiscated their e-scooters for performing dangerous stunts on sports tracks at Kite Beach. the authority announced on Saturday (December 27).

Authorities emphasised that such reckless behaviour endangers both riders and the public, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone who disregards the law or safety regulations.

With winter bringing more people to the beach for late-night walks and family outings, performing such stunts at popular spots like Kite beach is especially dangerous.

While e-scooters and e-bikes offer a convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation, their growing popularity has also led to a rise in traffic violations and fatalities. In response, many residents have called for either tighter regulation or outright bans within residential areas. Others, however, argued that a blanket ban is not the solution but rather a setback for daily commuters who rely on these modes of transport.

In just the first five months of 2025, 13 lives were lost in Dubai due to e-scooter misuse and jaywalking — a sharp, sobering spike that's reignited public debate around micromobility. The numbers tell their own story: in 2024 alone, the city recorded 254 accidents involving e-scooters and bicycles, resulting in 10 fatalities and 259 injuries.

The increasing disregard for traffic rules by some riders has become a pain for communities. As a result, neighbourhoods such as Victory Heights and Jumeirah Beach Residences have banned their use entirely.

The measures are not only exclusive to Dubai. Police in Ajman have earlier issued a reminder to parents about the dangers of children using bicycles or electric scooters on public roads or between vehicles. The authority highlighted that riding in non-designated areas exposes children to serious risks that could lead to accidents and severe injuries, while also posing a threat to the safety of others.

With cooler weather and schools out, many children see this as the perfect time to take their electric scooters and bicycles out of storage and onto the roads. However, authorities and road safety experts warn that parents must take necessary precautions before letting their children venture out.

Road safety expert Mustafa Aldah, in an earlier interview with Khaleej Times, stressed the parents’ responsibility for their children’s safety. He noted that while it’s understandable for children to want outdoor activities, such as riding bikes or scooters, parents should assess whether their kids are responsible enough to navigate the roads safely on their own.
