Getting distracted while driving your car can lead to serious consequences, not just for the driver but also for other motorists on the road. A recent video put out by the Abu Dhabi Police show how drivers not paying attention to the road can cause major accidents.

The Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Center and as part of the 'Your Comment' initiative, published a video of accidents caused by distraction and lack of attention during sudden stops amid traffic.

The videos showed one incident of a car hitting the vehicle in front, the road divider and changing several lanes, instead of slowing down, causing a multi-vehicle collision and forcing several other vehicles to stop in their tracks.

Footage from another accident showed one car bumping into another at full speed, causing the bumper to fall off and slowing down traffic on the road.

Sharing the video, Abu Dhabi Police emphasised on the necessity of not being distracted by anything while driving and maintaining full focus, which helps drivers remain alert and respond safely and in a timely manner.

They explained that lack of attention in such situations in particular can lead to traffic accidents that often result in fatalities or severe injuries.

They also warned drivers about the dangers of using a phone while driving— whether browsing the internet or social media, making a call, taking photos, or engaging in other behaviors that can lead to serious traffic accidents.

The police noted that the fine for being distracted from the road while driving, in any form, is Dh800 and carries 4 traffic points.
