The call for Hamas to step down as Gaza administrators is growing across the Middle East. In the latest call, top UAE diplomat, Dr Anwar Gargash, on Friday echoed the Arab League, urging the Palestinian group to give up control over the Strip.
"The rational call of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, for Hamas to step down from the administration of Gaza is appropriate," wrote the diplomatic adviser to the UAE President.
Gargash emphasised that the interest of the Palestinian people should be a priority. "Palestinian people must come before the interests of the movement, especially in light of the calls to displace Palestinians from Gaza."
He also noted that the ongoing conflict, fuelled by Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack, has led to the destruction of Gaza's "human and social fabric".

Meanwhile, Arab officials at the World Government Summit in Dubai firmly rejected any proposal to forcibly relocate Palestinians from Gaza.
The discussion came in response to a proposal by US President Donald Trump, suggesting that Palestinians be relocated to allow for Gaza’s reconstruction.
Speaking at the summit, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi made the Arab stance clear: “There is no one in the Arab community that accepts the idea of forced displacement.”
While Albudaiwi argued that the US is still trying to mediate and find a workable solution, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, criticised the US approach, calling it “ambiguous”.
He also warned that Washington appears to view the solution to the Middle East crisis as erasing Palestinian identity in Gaza. “This is not mediation,” he asserted.
He stressed that relocating Gaza’s population would be an “injustice” that denies Palestinians their legitimate right to land and self-determination. He reaffirmed that the Arab world has opposed such notions for nearly a century and will continue to do so.
