An Emirati student stood trial on Thursday on an attempted murder charge after the public prosecution accused him of trying to kill a Chinese man together with a runaway accomplice.
The prosecution records say that the 21-year-old student, identified as H.S., tried at first to rob the victim in his flat with his friend. But the victim kicked them out so they came back later after they purchased a knife. And one of them got a sword from his friend.
They went to the victim's building and attacked him with their weapons by stabbing and hitting him all over his body.
The victim resisted and managed to scream for help. And he was rushed to hospital.
H.S. has been charged in the Court of First Instance with premeditated attempted murder and attempted robbery at night with weapons.
A police lieutenant said the incident which happened in Al Muraqqabat, was reported at around 2.30am on August 19.
The officers learnt that the victim was unable to give a statement because he was undergoing treatment.
"He said later that H.S. and his friend came to his flat in which he gives massage services. They threatened him with a cleaver and asked for money." But he kicked them out after he snatched the cleaver and pointed it to the neck of one of them and threatened to hurt him.
But the duo came back about three days later and attacked him.
The victim rushed to the second floor and a Thai woman helped him by calling the police and ambulance. The police learnt that H.S. was involved in the attack and they arrested him in Sharjah.
H.S. admitted in the interrogation that he and his friend planned to rob the flat which offers massage services after spotting a massage card on his car. They called the number on the card to get the location.
When they reached the place, H.S. took out his cleaver to threaten the Chinese man for money. But the latter snatched the cleaver which he pointed on the other man's neck. He asked the second man to drop his knife or that he would hurt him. They then fled the flat empty-handed. They came back later for pay back.
H.S.'s friend is being held by Sharjah Police in connection with another case. The hearing has been adjourned to December 21.
