A student and his friend were attacked by a group of men during a fight at a mall in which he lost his front teeth, a court heard.
The Court of first Instance was told that the Egyptian student, 18, first saw his friend trying to get some men away from someone.
"I told him to forget about it saying that we don't want any trouble. Then the attackers told us to go to the food court to work it out. But then about 18 other men came and one of them attacked my friend and I was also punched. We were beaten up by many others," the Egyptian victim said.
The other victim, an American student, 17, said that he was pushed by the defendants and their friends when he tried to get one of them away from his friend's brother.
"When I was joined by my friend the other men told us to go to the parking lot near the food court. Other men came and one of the accused slapped me on the face threatening that I don't know who he is".
A police corporal said they summoned two defendants, who were identified, to the police station and arrested them following a complaint by the two victims on September 2, last year. Two of the attackers including a 19-year-old Emirati employee and another referred to the Court of Juveniles, were charged with physical assault leading to permanent injury and assault on others' safety.
The victims' friend, a 18-year-old Iranian student, said he went to buy some food in the food court.
"When I came back I found them surrounded by around 20 people. As I got closer I saw they were injured apparently after being kicked by some of those men".
The student saw his Egyptian friend, on the ground, bleeding from the mouth as his front teeth were broken after being kicked.
According to the forensic report, one of the victims lost two front teeth and suffered several bruises after he was kicked and punched in the fight. The two victims identified the defendants among other suspects at Al Rashidiyah police station.
The hearing has been adjourned to September 26.
