More than 200 people gathered for a special Ramadan iftar to celebrate inclusion and support people of determination. Families of children of determination, community leaders, influencers and volunteers joined the gathering, which focused on compassion, unity and creating opportunities for children to showcase their talents.
The evening began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Nilofer Saleem, one of the young guests of determination. “I feel very happy to be here,” said Nilofer. “We wait for this iftar gathering throughout the year. I love meeting so many kind people and receiving lovely gifts.”
The event, organised by JYK Community Services in collaboration with Westfield Event Management, brought together families, community members and prominent guests at Khalidiya Palace Hotel. Among those attending was social media personality Khalid Al Ameri and Bollywood veteran actress Kalpana Iyer.

Organisers said the evening was designed to highlight the importance of building a society where everyone feels supported and valued. “This special iftar is not just a gathering,” said Juhi Yasmeen Khan, founder of JYK Community Services. “It is a reminder that compassion, unity and inclusion will always define our community.”
Handmade gifts
One of the highlights of the evening was a set of handmade gifts prepared by the children. Wooden lighthouse pieces, canvas artworks and sapling pots were signed and decorated by the children and presented to supporters and partners as tokens of gratitude.
The items symbolised growth, resilience and hope. Guests said the personal touches made the event especially memorable.
“It means so much to receive something created by these wonderful children,” said actress Kalpana Iyer. “Standing together with people of determination and their families creates meaningful moments that inspire hope and compassion.”
Organisers also arranged gift packages for the children and their families. These included toys, stationery, hygiene kits, accessories, plants and grocery packs. Henna artists from Aroushi Beauty Salon added a festive touch during the gathering, while Aster Clinic provided complimentary health check-ups for families. Prime Vision Studio documented the event, capturing moments of joy and interaction between the children and guests.
True spirit of UAE
Organisers said the event also aimed to send a message of positivity during uncertain regional times. “Many people suggested postponing the event due to the current situation,” Khan said. “But I believed this was the moment to demonstrate the true spirit of the UAE.”
She added that the gathering was meant to show that communities can remain united and hopeful. “We are one community, we are safe, and we stand together,” she said.
Later in the evening, guests shared dinner and spent time interacting with the children and their families. The event also included performances, conversations and activities that allowed the children to share their dreams and talents. Families said the gathering provided a meaningful opportunity to connect with others facing similar experiences.
