These special needs people are first put under a tailor-made training programme and when they qualify, are honoured with degrees.

Recently, the academy assimilated 25 special needs people to the mainstream job sector and awarded graduation degrees under the title 'UAE Academy - The Bridge Programme' at the Emirates Palace.

Talking to Khaleej Times, Captain Salem Mohammed Al Khazraji, head of learning and development at ADAC, said under the regular training and merging programme of the Academy, 25 special needs people were merged with different government departments in the emirate.

Top level officials from the Department of Transport, Ministry of Labour, Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Khalifa Fund to Support and Develop Small and Medium Enterprises, Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations, Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs and other officials from the academy were present on the occasion to encourage the special needs people on their achievement of
graduation degrees.

Mohammed Rashed Al Hameli, director-general, ADCCI, and chairman of the UAE Academy, said the Bridge programme is an efficient strategy of the UAE Academy to train national cadres and merge them with the labour market as per the best scientific methods required for the current market. “We are sure the people who have graduated today would work for translating the country's vision for economic and social developments,”
Al Hameli said.

Mohammed Ahmed Al Bawardi, secretary general of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council graced the occasion and distributed the degrees. Al Bawardi also honoured officials of the companies where special needs people were accommodated.

UAE Academy, a subsidiary of the ADCCI, works with both the public and private sectors to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete in a knowledge economy.
