An 18-year-old man allegedly locked up his girlfriend and her cousin inside his bedroom at his villa and assaulted her, a Dubai court has heard. The Emirati soldier has been accused of illegal confinement as he stood trial at the Court of First Instance.
The girlfriend called the police on October 6. The 18-year-old said she was in the defendant's bedroom with her cousin when he checked her mobile phone. "He got on Snapchat and spotted a male contact. I told him it was my cousin's friend."
She claimed that he got angry and assaulted her when her cousin contradicted what she said.
He left the place after telling her he would come back "to assault me again". "He called me later and threatened that he would not let me leave and that he would beat me up one more time when he came back."
She called the police then. "When the police arrived, they told the defendant's sisters to open the door for us," she told the public prosecution investigator.
A policeman said he was on patrol duty when he was informed about a kidnapping incident involving a female at a villa in Al Qusais. "I spoke with her on the phone and she led me to her location. When we reached the place shortly later, we learned that the defendant, who held them up against their will, was outside the villa at the time."
Before other police officers arrived, one of the defendant's sisters let the two women out of the room after breaking the door lock.
The two women were attended to by paramedics at the scene. They were then taken to the police station for interrogation.
The on-duty lieutenant and forensics team arrived and collected evidence from the bedroom.
Another police officer, who was on patrol duty that day, gave a similar testimony.
The defendant admitted during the prosecution investigation that he had deprived the two women of their freedom by locking them up inside his bedroom. He confessed he assaulted his girlfriend.
The other woman claimed that she went to the villa after her cousin called her for help against the accused who was keeping her in his bedroom against her will. She found her crying. But the accused then confined her inside his room as well.
A forensic report showed the defendant's girlfriend was left with leg bruises.
The next hearing is set for December 23.
