UAE: 3 injured Asians evacuated from sinking cargo ship

Three injured people were rescued from a sinking cargo ship in UAE waters by the country's National Guard on Sunday, the authority said.
The National Guard carried out a critical medical evacuation operation on Sunday, May 18, following the sinking of a cargo vessel in the regional waters of the UAE. The three Asians were rescued from a sinking cargo ship in a coordinated operation involving the National Guard, Coast Guard, and Search and Rescue units.

Using a specially equipped rescue canoe, the teams successfully reached and evacuated the injured passengers. The evacuees received immediate medical attention on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The National Guard reaffirmed its readiness to respond promptly to similar emergencies, ensuring the safety and security of all individuals in the UAE’s maritime jurisdiction.
Last week, a 50-year-old Indian national was airlifted to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi after sustaining burns and multiple injuries aboard a cargo ship in the UAE's territorial waters. Utilising specialised search and rescue aircraft, the team was able to reach the vessel swiftly and transport the injured crew member to receive urgent medical care.
Last month, the UAE's National Guard rescued 10 Asian sailors from a ship which caught fire while at sea.
Rescue operations of that kind fall within missions undertaken by the National Guard to enhance maritime security and respond immediately to emergencies, to preserve lives and support public safety.
