Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan promoted to General in the UAE Armed Forces

In a landmark decision, UAE President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued a federal decree promoting Sheikh Hamdan.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has now been appointed General of the UAE Armed Forces.
The promotion comes just over a year after Sheikh Hamdan joined the federal government and assumed his dual roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.
A graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Sheikh Hamdan has played an increasingly active role in shaping the UAE’s defence strategy amid ongoing regional and global developments.

Since his appointment, he has overseen key defence engagements. In February 2025, he attended the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX), where he met with senior defence officials from Kazakhstan and Kuwait to discuss joint training, coordination, and international cooperation.
In March, during the holy month of Ramadan, Sheikh Hamdan shared Iftar with national service recruits at the Sweihan Training Centre in Abu Dhabi. He praised their discipline and described national service as a cornerstone of unity and national strength.
Two months later, he visited Al Dhafra Air Base to inspect military units, assess combat readiness, and highlight the technological advancements of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence.
