The Sharjah Police arrested a gang of 58 Asians for smuggling 153kg of drugs worth Dh63 million into the country.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Sharjah Police General Directorate, operation '7/7' was initiated and a large haul of the illicit drugs was seized, including liquid crystal meth.

Major-General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police,  said at a press conference on Thursday that the gang operated an organised network to smuggle and promote drugs inside the country and were caught while receiving the consignment at an airport and a port.
How drug cartel was busted
Al Shamsi revealed that the Anti-Narcotics Department formed teams and launched an intensified search and investigation operation. The team arrested one person at the airport soon after he landed in the country. He told officials he was in the country to receive a marine vehicle, arriving from one of the neighbouring countries, in which the drugs haul was hidden inside fish baskets.
The man also disclosed a residential villa in the country is being used to manufacture the illicit liquid crystal. Police then raided the residential property from where a large number of Asians were caught making liquid crystal. The arrested confessed to being involved in drug trafficking and revealed names of others involved in the drug cartel, following which police have nabbed them.
Police have also suspended seven bank accounts in local banks in connection with the case.
