A two-year registration licence (Mulkia) for brand new light vehicles has been rolled out in Sharjah, authorities have announced.

The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Sharjah Police said it was now issuing a two-year vehicle ownership registration licence of newly acquired light vehicles for individuals, subject to obtaining valid insurance for the same period.

The initiative is in line with the authorities' plans to provide high-quality police services to citizens and residents in a manner that meets their demands.

Major General Saif Al-Zari Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, affirmed that the Sharjah Police have adopted the ambitious plan to upgrade services so that the force have an added value that contributes to saving time and effort of the community members.

"The new initiative aims to ensure the provision of all administrative services in accordance with the standards of quality, efficiency and transparency," Al Shamsi said in a statement.

Lt Col Khaled Al-Kai, director of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, pointed out that in order to avail of this new service, the vehicle owner must present an insurance document valid for two years and pay the required fees for the service.

The official clarified that this new vehicle registration service is optional.
