His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the much-anticipated 38th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) at the Sharjah Expo Centre on Wednesday.

With participation from 2,000 publishers across 81 countries, the SIBF is also going to be home for 173 authors from 68 Arab and foreign countries across the globe.
The fair will showcase 987 activities presenting scientific, knowledge and literary themes.
However, the sale of top-rated books from across titles and interaction with authors are not the only reason SIBF is one of the most sought-after book expos in the world.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, the Sharjah government body that organises the fair every year, this year's book fair will be carrying the theme of the Sharjah World Book Capital (SWBC), 'Open Books Open Minds', to promote books and reading across age groups and communities.
Here are the top ten Khaleej Times recommended activities to look out for at SIBF this year:
1-Meet the 2006 Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk
The Turkish author will discuss his novels, his work and his life in Turkey. One of Turkey's most prominent novelists, his work has sold over thirteen million books in sixty-three languages, making him the country's best-selling writer.
