Stop swimming in danger zones, say Sharjah Police

Sharjah - A top official at the Sharjah Police said that the police are keen to maintain security on the beaches throughout the year.

To reduce beach accidents, including drowning and jet ski crashes that peak during summer, authorities in Sharjah have urged the public to take precautions, and adhere to the guidelines for swimming.
A top official at the Sharjah Police said that the police are keen to maintain security on the beaches throughout the year in general and in the summer in particular to ensure safety for beachgoers.
He added that the police had warned visitors to take precautions, especially during unstable weather and high sea currents. 
There are many warning signs placed on the beaches in coordination with the municipalities to alert the beachgoers of the potential risks and the dangerous areas for swimming. 
He urged the public to follow the instructions on the signboards to avoid drowning accidents. He pointed out that the police are currently placing signboards that carry information and safety instructions in different languages along the coast of the emirate. 
"This is to help beachgoers determine the sites suitable for swimming and to ensure highest rates of safety. Despite all these efforts, we find people still insisting on swimming in dangerous places, ignoring the instructions," said the official.
Jet ski safety
A number of coast guards and Sharjah Police patrols are deployed on the beach.
He warned of jet ski accidents, saying that they could be as serious as vehicle accidents because of the speed and its small size. 
"People should ride within the limits of the beach specified using yellow buoys.
