Sharjah Police have rescued a 68-year-old GCC national, who was kicked out of his home by his own children.

According to Col Abdullah Al Naqbi, director of Wasit police station, the old man approached the station and asked for help after his son abused him and ousted him from his home following a family dispute. He told the police that he didn't have a place to go.

The police officers welcomed the father and calmed him down before calling the son to the police station. The police officers listened to both sides in the presence of social workers and family affair specialists.

Col Al Naqbi said that following a discussion with the officers, the sons expressed regret over their bad behaviour. "He said it was a result of some family disputes and distress he was going through. He lost his temper while having a dispute. He promised not to repeat it again and he and his brothers apologised to the father. It was a situation when the eyes of every one, including the police officers, filled with tears. The children took the father home happily," he added.

Col Al Naqbi said that as per the tradition of the UAE, parents are respected. "This case is considered as individual behaviour of the old man's children who ignored the role of parents and failed to handle the problem with wisdom and prudence."

He pointed out that the case will be followed up consistently to ensure that the family issues are resolved.

He said that the community police section plays a big role in resolving family problems by summoning the parties of dispute and listening to all of them, opening the door for dialogue between them.
