Smart projects on show at Sharjah Innovation Week

Sharjah - Among the most prominent projects being exhibited by the Sharjah Municipality is the Royah.

A solar-powered project that can treat water from laundries, bathtubs and washing machines; a project which uses drones for aerial photo outputs of buildings; a smart guard device that can monitor a large area while reducing patrols; and a noise-detecting radar which can pick up vehicle sounds. These are some of the smart projects and initiatives showcased at the Innovation Week which kicked off on the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) premises on Saturday. 
A large number of local and federal government entities as well as universities in Sharjah are participating in the event, which is celebrating innovation and innovators, under the slogan 'UAE Innovates in Preparation for the Next 50 Years'.
Project Royah
Among the most prominent projects being exhibited by the Sharjah Municipality is the Royah. "It is a solar-powered water treatment plant to treat water from laundries, bathtubs, washing machines, drains and car wash stations that can be used for irrigation and consumption by animals," said Salim Thabit Al Taraifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality.
The civic body also showcased a project 'El-Baz Plane' which uses drone technology in aerial photography and cadastral data processing and matching the aerial photo outputs of buildings with documented maps of the municipality.
Smart Guard
Major Ali Khalifa Ghahashi from special task department said the Sharjah Police presented "smart guard" project, designed by police officers. The project is about mobile trailer that includes smart and advanced camera with accurate zoom that can cover a large area.
Smart Radar
Lt Omar Salim Al Jarwan, head of the road monitoring department at Sharjah Police, said that the police also displayed a noise-detecting radar which can pick up vehicle sounds. "The project aims to increase safety on the roads and provide security and convenience to the public."
Direct service
Representing the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship was the National Identity Authority which presented a project to notify individuals and companies about the expiry of passports, National ID cards and residency visas.
