Officials in Sharjah on Sunday inaugurated the Khor Fakkan Monument, designed to be a traditional Arabian incense burner statue and a symbol of 'Mabkhara'.
It was built right at the entrance of the historic city to welcome guests and tourists from across the country and around the world.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh  Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the launch was led by engineer Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, adviser to the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey.
Al Muhairi stressed that building the new monument was in line with the Sharjah Ruler's directives to bring Khor Fakkan's heritage to life. The city, he said, is one of the most popular historic destinations in the emirate.
The project was also implemented as part of the development plans adopted in the Eastern and Central regions.
Among those who attended the inauguration were Dr Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, chairman of the Khor Fakkan Municipal Council, and engineer Fawzia Rashid Al Qadhi, director of the Khor Fakkan Municipality.
