A survey of Emirati households has been launched in Sharjah, aiming to keep track of the standards of living in the emirate.
Called 'Tahdeeth', the poll is an initiative of Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) in Sharjah (DSCD).
It is a continuation of the department's 2017 data project in which 25,000 Emirati households and individuals took part, creating a picture of the overall demographics and living standards in terms of social, economic and health aspects. This year's survey will then be compared with the 2017 results.
The project is being conducted under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Tahdeeth will assess changes in the population of Sharjah in terms of age group, gender, administrative areas, number of households, average household size, marital status (single, widowhood, divorce, marriage, abandonment), as well as births and deaths.
Other factors include educational status, highest educational attainment, income, bank loans, individuals receiving financial assistance from social services, housing, and average household size.
Two phases
The first phase of Tahdeeth has already been completed. Text messages had been sent to the mobile numbers of household heads, who were then directed to the registration application. Respondents got to choose how they wish to update their household data.
In the second phase, running until December 6, Emirati households will either receive phone calls from Tahdeeth's call centre or get visits from DSCD representatives. Some will be required to fill out the application online.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, chairman of the DSCD, said: "The Tahdeeth 2019 project aligns with DSCD's strategy to support sustainable development efforts by following trends in social changes and understanding the needs of the society."
All entities involved in community development efforts must be equipped with statistical data and information that will enable them to develop smart and effective action plans, he explained.
The DSCD chairman urged all respondents to cooperate with the team and provide them with accurate information.
"This will contribute to enhancing the efforts to improve community services and offer a high standard of living for Sharjah's people," he said.
