The Sharjah Police have stepped up patrols in residential zones to prevent thefts of car batteries and valuables from inside vehicles.
Acting on residents' complaints, the police have increased vigil in many areas, including Maysalon, Al Nasseria and Al Mussala and Al Yarmouk.
A police official warned against the danger of leaving vehicles without adequate protection.
"Motorists should take necessary preventive measures by ensuring that the doors and windows of the cars are closed and they should not park their vehicles in isolated open areas.
"They must also not keep precious items, cash or valuables inside the car."
He added that in 2019, Isnad patrols nabbed many culprits, mostly teenagers, who were trying to steal items from cars.
The official said that despite the decline in the number of thefts achieved due to awareness, the police still receive reports from the public about thefts of valuables kept inside the cars. Investigation revealed that most of these thefts from cars occurred due to negligence of owners.
Brigadier-General Mohammad Rashid Bayat, director-general of police operations at the Sharjah Police, said that the police plan to launch more awareness campaigns this year.
