Candidates begin filing papers for Sharjah council elections

Sharjah - The SCC has a total of 50 members from the emirate's nine constituencies.

Candidates running for the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) elections have started filing their papers at registration centres in municipalities across the emirate. More than 40 candidates registered in Sharjah city on day one of the three-day registration.
The SCC has a total of 50 members from the emirate's nine constituencies, 25 of which are elected and the other 25 are appointed, explained Dr Mansour Bin Nassar, chairman of the higher Committee for the SCC elections.
Registrations will close on Tuesday, and the initial list of candidates shall be released on October 27. From October 28 to 29, appeals can be filed, and the final list will be announced on October 31.
Then, candidates will have 14 days for their campaigns. Elections will be held from November 20 to 23, while the announcement of preliminary results is scheduled on November 24. "It is important for the public to vote and contribute to decision-making by selecting the right candidate who can serve as the voice of citizens," Dr Bin Nassar said.
A member of the SCC, Abdullah Al Ketbi, emphasised that the council has a key role in ensuring that citizens' concerns and issues are addressed.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Al Ketbi said: "Through the SCC members and municipal councils, Sharjah is determined to reach out to its citizens, wherever they may be, and meet their aspirations and needs."
