Boy falls to death from UAE apartment, suicide suspected
His parents have been taken into police custody for questioning.
A 16-year-old boy died after he fell off the fourth floor of his family apartment in Sharjah on Saturday. Prima facie, the police suspect the boy committed suicide, but have not ruled out other causes. The incident was reported at 12.45pm in Al Qasimia area.
The Arab boy was a grade 11 student. His parents have been taken into police custody for questioning.
On being notified, the police rushed the boy to Al Kuwaiti Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He sustained critical injuries to his skull and suffered from internal bleeding. The body has been transferred to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.
One of his friends said the deceased was a brilliant student. "He was loved by all his classmates and teachers."
This is the second incident of its kind in the emirate in under a year. A 14-year-old Arab boy died after he jumped off the balcony of his 15th floor apartment in Al Majaz area in March. Police investigations revealed that the boy was pulled up by his parents for playing video games for an hour.
