Paid public parking spaces in Sharjah will be free on Wednesday, New Year's Day, the municipality has announced. However, this excludes parking in Al Hisn and Al Shuwaiheen areas, as well as Al Buhaira corniche, Jubail, bird market, Central Souq, Al majaz 1, 2, 3, and University City.
Authorities urged motorists to park properly and avoid violations.
The municipality also announced that 1,300 new paid parking spaces have been introduced in the emirate's Al Nahda area, as part of the plan to add a total of 6,200 parking slots in the first quarter of 2020.
Ali Abu Ghazeen, director of public parking department at the Sharjah Municipality, said 120 parking payment machines, 12 large instruction boards, and 600 small panels for SMS payment guides have also been installed as part of the project.
Thabit Salem Al Tarifi, director-general of the municipality, said the move comes as Al Nahda area is fast becoming a vital area for Sharjah as it witnesses significant growth.
