Many residents of the emirate's Al Suyoh community were relocated to hotels after a raging wadi swept across their neighbourhood during the records rains last week
Schools have reopened at 25 per cent capacity, which will be gradually increased to 50 and 75 per cent, before attaining full attendance.
Dr Muhadatha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), said the education regulator's inspections teams visited several schools on the first two days to ensure managements are complying with the safety measures. All schools will be inspected by the authority.
Al Hashimi said: "The school staff that received students on Sunday showed great awareness about the safety protocols. Parents also contributed to facilitating the process through their commitment to the preventive procedures and requirements."
The SPEA stressed the need to adhere to the measures. "Strict action will be taken against schools that violate them," she added.
The SPEA chairperson said nearly 500 academic officials have been trained to deal with suspected Covid-19 cases and the procedures to be followed.
