Sharjah: These robots talk to children, make research 'fun' for academics
Moxy offers a genuine and personal connection for children and is also designed to assist with early speech development, particularly for children with autism

At the ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024), AI-powered robots are making social and emotional connections with kids by engaging them in enjoyable conversations.
A robot named Moxy, introduced by Trends Research and Advisory Centre, turns its heads and captures the hearts of the young visitors, showing how technology can help kids connect with others.

According to the company, the robot – imported from the US – is also designed to assist children with early speech development. “Many children, particularly those with autism, can benefit from Moxy's unique capabilities. This friendly robot engages with kids by conversing and answering their questions, making learning and communication enjoyable,” Trends noted.

With its ability to engage in friendly voice conversations, Moxy offers a genuine and personal connection for children, especially those who often feel alone-fostering an atmosphere where kids are encouraged to express themselves, which in turn helps them build confidence and improve their communication skills.
“Moxy has become a favourite among children, making socialising easier and supporting their emotional and social development,” the company noted.
Questions answered by Echo
Another fascinating robot present at SIBF is called Echo, which is designed to assist with academic research. “Echo answers questions and helps researchers find information quickly, making the research process more enjoyable and efficient. Visitors could explore Echo by asking him questions and experiencing it, adding an element of fun to academia,” Trends explained.
Young visitors also gathered to try on a pair of 'Tara' glasses, an advanced 3D VR glasses that allow users to dive into the centre's innovative book collection. These interactive glasses provide a unique way to explore literature, making reading exciting and immersive.
Trends noted they are home to many publications in more than 15 languages. They offer original and translated books covering diverse topics, from economics and politics to energy and natural resources.
