The Sharjah Police will from today accept payments as an alternative to car impoundment period.
Based on Order no 23 of 2015 issued by the Sharjah Executive Council, the Sharjah Police will accept Dh100 for a confiscated salon vehicle and Dh200 per day for a heavy vehicle.
The fee must be paid for each day. For example, if the police confiscate a salon car for 10 days due to some violation, the owner of the car will have to pay Dh1,000 for the whole period before taking his car.
According to the order, if the period for which the car was impounded is over and the owner doesn't come to pick up his vehicle, the police will charge Dh50 per day for both heavy or light vehicles. The owner will be able to take his car only after making the payment.
The police have also warned that they will not wait for very long and will sell off the impounded vehicle if the confiscation fine reaches Dh5,000 for light vehicles and Dh8,000 for heavy vehicles.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, a top official of the Sharjah Traffic Police said that the introduction of fees for car confiscation period is aimed at reducing traffic violation. "The police will not tolerate those who violate the law," he said.
