Sharjah Ruler reduces power tariff for residents

Sharjah - Another way the UAE is making 2019 all about saving.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has reduced the electricity tariff for flats in freehold and resident households in the emirate.
The cost of the tariff, reduced by up to 37.7%, affects buildings owned by non-locals or expatriates in Sharjah. 
Originally, the fixed tariff rate could reach 45 fils per Kilowatt.
According to a table given by Sewa, usage up to 2,000 KW will be charged at 28 fils. Using more than 6,001 KW will see a charge of 43 fils per Kilowatt.
Those who use between 2,001 and 4,000 KW will be charged at 33 fils, while those using over 4,001 and up to 6,000 will be charged at 37 fils per Kilowatt. 
The reduction has come into effect on January 1, 2019 and will be reflected in this month's bill for residents of the emirate. 
The Sharjah authority followed suit after the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) decided to slash tariff for electricity from 45 to 28 fils per kilowatt (kW) on Tuesday. The reduction in tariff will come into effect from February. 
Nearly 50,000 people will be affected and more than 90 per cent of users will reap the benefits of the move.    
Dr Rashid Al Lim, chairman of Sewa, hailed the Sharjah ruler for his initiative which will help maintain the emirate as a haven of social stability and family friendly initiatives during the Year of Tolerance.
