However, the Sharjah City Municipality announced on Saturday that parking fees are applicable at 5,857 spots on all days of the year. Motorists can identify such parking zones via the 579 "blue parking information boards" that have been installed across the city.

The civic body said it aims make parking spaces available to residents at all times.

Residents have been advised to check the type of parking before using it on holidays.

Such paid zones were first announced in 2018. The municipality had said then that the decision was taken based on suggestions given by residents. They had said that bringing vital areas under the paid parking system throughout the week would reduce parking issues.

"The residents of buildings in these areas find it difficult to park their vehicles on holidays as people come from other places and park their cars for a long time," an official had said.
