An occasion marked by a great deal of revelry, at least 4,000 members of various alumni colleges from Kerala will gather to celebrate the occasion with traditional fervour and gaiety.

This year, the Association of the Mar Ivanois College Old Students (Amicos), Dubai chapter, is in charge of organising the Akcaf Onam celebrations. The two-day function started on September 4 with a floral carpet (Athapoo) competition at the Westminister school where more than 2,500 came together to witness the alumni members of 25 colleges vying for the first prize.

The grand finale titled "Onolsavam" promises to be a major crowd-puller with the main highlight of the event being a 90-minute comedy show performed by various Malayalam cinema artists - Jagadhy Sreekumar, Jagadish and Nandu and directed by national award winner Rajeev Nath. Music lovers are in for a treat with a series of melodious tunes being belted out by Vidhu Prathap and his orchestra.

The show will also feature various traditional art forms of Kerala, soul-stirring melodies and colourful folk dances. The Onasadya or the grand Onam feast will be served to at least 4,000 members and guests.
