Preparations for the stage production of Al Faris (The Knight) are in full swing
Music recordings for the epic musical, based on the poems of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, have been completed, according to Brand Dubai, a subsidiary of the Government of Dubai Media Office.
The songs for the musical are sung by renowned Lebanese singer Ghassan Saliba and popular Emirati singer Balqees Fathi, who also play the lead roles in the play.
The Brand Dubai team is working together with Rahbani Productions and other partners to present a stage production that will be a unique spectacle full of colour, music and dance.
Salem Belyouha, Media Services Director in the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) and Project Manager of Al Faris said the GDMO seeks to present a stage show that will be a landmark production in the history of Arabic musical theatre.
He said: "We have put in place all the elements necessary for a unique production that combines the beauty of the poems of Shaikh Mohammed with the best of dramatic theatre. The play will be a distinctive addition to the Emirati and Arab cultural scene."
Written by renowned Lebanese theatrical director Marwan Rahbani, Al Faris depicts the epic horseback journey of a knight to rescue his lady-love Shomoos from her kidnapper Ghairan. A richly allegorical fantasy play, Al Faris tells the story of a warrior's determination to ensure his people are safe and prosperous in a world surrounded by violence and hatred.
Rahbani, who is also director of the play said background music for the stage show was recorded in state-of-the-art studios in Lebanon and Ukraine. Training for the play's cast and the recordings for the show's video backdrop have commenced while the voice recording for the actors will begin next week, he added.
Brand Dubai has rolled out an extensive marketing campaign to inform the public across the UAE about the event. The marketing campaign features, among others, outdoor advertisements in prominent locations.
The stage production of Al Faris is set to open on January 4, at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will run for four days till January 7. Online ticket sales for the play have opened on www.platinumlist.net/alfaris. Tickets can also be bought from over 60 outlets located across the UAE, starting from December 6.
