As many as 433 people were rescued last year by the air wing unit of the Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Staff Col Yousef SY Al Zaabi, director of special forces, RAK Police, said the rescued people included Emirati nationals and patients of different nationalities.
"They were saved as part of 130 rescue missions throughout the year." A total of 24 search and rescue operations were carried out "in conditions that are tough and rough", he added. "Many of these missions were conducted atop high mountains and deep valleys."
"In April alone last year, 34 rescue operations were carried out."
A few days back, the air wing unit rescued an Emirati woman who was heat exhausted and fell terribly sick while trekking the mountain of Wadi Ghalila, north Ras Al Khaimah.
Al Zaabi advised that hikers and trekkers need to be extra careful when climbing high mountains and take the prescribed safety precautionary measures.
"The RAK Police are available round-the-clock on 999 for emergency situations, and on 901 for regular enquiries."
"It is also important for hikers and trekkers to carry all the means of communications to alert the police in case of any emergency."
"Those going for trekking or hiking should keep their family informed about the place they are venturing out to."
