The National Search & Rescue Center has rescued a British man who fell off a high mountain.
The 52-year-old man was trekking on top of the Wadi Sheha mountains when he slipped and fell off the mountain, according to informed sources.
"The man sustained serious injuries in his head and several fractures all over his body."
The National Search & Rescue Center, alerted of the incident, dispatched a rescue chopper to the reported site in a record time.
"The injured man was airlifted to the Saqr hospital for treatment and medical care"
Early in June this year, the National Search & Rescue Center, accessible on toll free: (800823727), rescued four British trekkers on one of the high mountains here at Al Manei area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Also in January 2019, three female European tourists - who got trapped after losing their way in RAK mountains while trekking - were rescued in the nick of time by the Ras Al Khaimah Police.
A 78-year-old British pilot, in March 2018, survived a glider crash while flying at 5,000 feet, around 1,000 meters above sea level, on Jebel Jais, in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The mishap has been blamed on strong winds which made him lose control of the glider, veered off his course and fell down, according to informed sources.
A British young man, in June 2017, breathed his last while jogging in a mountainous area here in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. "The victim was accompanied by his friend, also Briton, when the first suddenly passed away."
A 22-year-old Briton, in December 2015, fell to death from the top of Jebel Jais in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations room, RAK Police, said trekkers and climbers needed to learn the basics of rock climbing on an indoor wall first.
"Climbers ought to inform the authorities about their activities, whereabouts and number of climbers, and consult climbing websites to get up-to-date information on local climbing sites."
Trekkers are also advised to carry a means of communication, such as a mobile or satellite phone, he said. "A whistle could also be useful to attract attention and take food items on their hike."
All mountain-goers, tourists and workers are urged to be more cautious in these areas and take all precautionary measures for their safety.
