Motorists in Ras Al Khaimah can now heave a sigh of relief after part of a key road - extending from Al Hadaf roundabout to Al Rams city - has been reopened while expansion works are ongoing.
The action was taken after major traffic jams were reported on the busy road because of the construction, said Ahmad Al Sayed, executive director of the Works Establishment, which is part of the emirate's Department of Public Works.
"This road is heavily used by the motorists at Al Muaireedh area in Al Rams to the north of RAK city," he said.
"The ongoing construction work is one of the department's projects to develop all the roads of the emirate."
Several parts of the arterial road are being developed, with the project divided into phases, Al Sayed explained.
"The first spans the development of the Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Road, extending from Al Hadaf roundabout to the Fish roundabout."
Major reconstruction is being done on Al Mataf road, while Al Hadaf roundabout will be turned into a traffic signal, he said.
The department asks for road users' patience throughout the works, Al Sayed added.
