A massive fire broke out at a labour camp in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), following which 44 workers were evacuated to safety.
Civil defence team and firefighters rushed to the spot and contained the fire which had gutted nine caravans of the labour camp of a company in Muaireedh area.
"All the 44 workers in the caravans were moved to safety and no casualties were reported in the big fire that broke out in the labour camp close to the RAK Port and FEWA Office," Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah Al Zaabi, Director General of the RAK Civil Defence Department said.
Adding that they were alerted about the fire late on Tuesday at 9:40 pm, Brig Al Zaabi said, "The competent firefighters managed to put out the flames before expanding to the nearby 21 caravans which were safely and successfully isolated."
The entire labour camp was cordoned off and firefighters managed to douse the fire in record time. "It is so critical to install smoke detectors to avoid casualties or financial loss," Brig Al Zaabi emphasized.
