Buying a new car proved to be a rewarding experience for Pakistani expat Akhtar Hussain. Thanks to a unique initiative that encourages residents to register their new vehicles, the expat won Dh20,000 after getting his Ras Al Khaimah number plate.
Hussain became the fifth lucky winner of the RAK Police's monthly prize called 'My luck number'. Winners are chosen based on draws conducted through an e-system that automatically sorts out numbers.
Hussain said he was "excited" to claim the August prize. "I urge residents to have their vehicles and motorbikes registered in Ras Al Khaimah. It took me only a few minutes to have all the paperwork done."
Abdullah bin Salman Al Nuaimi, board member of the General Resources Authority, RAK Police, said the scheme has encouraged more car owners to have their vehicles registered here. "The monthly raffle draw is electronic, transparent and trustworthy," he said.
So far, Indian resident Pankaj Tilak Raj; Jordanian Zuhair Rida Sami; Emirati Fahd Ali Saeed Al Yamahi; and Iraqi Abdullah Hamed have won the Dh20,000 prize.
