The air wing section of the Ras Al Khaimah police on Monday managed to rescue an Emirati woman who was exhausted and fell ill while trekking on a high mountain in Wadi Ghalila.
Group Commander Saeed Al Yamahi, head of the air wing section, said they were alerted about the seriously exhausted woman by the central operations room.
"A chopper was dispatched to the reported site in just 15 minutes."
She was then airlifted to one of the hospitals in the emirate for treatment and medical care, he added.
"Trekkers need to be extra careful when climbing high mountains and take all due safety precautionary measures."
RAK police is available round the clock on (999) for emergency situations, and (901) for regular inquiries, he underlined.
"It is also important and even life-saving to carry all means of communication to alert the police in case of emergency."
Trekking alone poses a grave risk, as no one knows what might happen, he pointed out. "Should anyone want to go trekking, they need to update their family about their whereabouts."
