A young Asian man has appeared in court for assaulting policemen while resisting arrest, following a brawl on the Ras Al Khaimah beach.
Besides police assault, he is also facing charges of insulting authorities in public and consuming alcohol.
The defendant was drunk when he reportedly started a brawl on the beach. He claimed that he wanted to get back at a man who tried to harass him a week before the incident.
"I was sitting on the beach at that time, when a young man approached me, then asked me to have sex with him."
He said he refused and walked away. "I came across the same person while walking on the beach, so I started a fight with him in revenge."
A group of cops then arrived at the scene and arrested him.
"I was defending myself and never meant to assault the police," he said.
However, he denied swearing at them. "I was drunk and cannot remember anything."
The trial was adjourned until next month for the ruling.
