64-year-old man killed while trying to cross road in UAE
He was declared dead on the spot.
A 64-year-old Asian resident succumbed to fatal injuries after a car driven by an Emirati ran over him.
The man was trying to cross the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed road, when the accident took place.
Brigadier Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, RAK Police, said that they were alerted about the mishap on Sunday night at around 7pm.
"The victim was run over close to Exit 126 opposite the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme Office, towards the direction of Ras Al Khaimah. He could not make it and was declared dead on the spot because of the gruesome injuries he received", he added.
The body of the victim was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives, while the accident file was referred to the authorities concerned for legal action.
"The public is urged to cross the roads from designated areas only, and after making sure that they are clear for their safety. Drivers also need to remain focus on the wheel and observe traffic rules and regulations, mainly speed limits to avoid such sorrowful accidents.
It was in September, that a 28-year-old Asian young man also succumbed to fatal injuries he received after a car driven by a 40-year-old Emirati man ran over him while crossing the Wakalat road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim was crossing the road from a non-pedestrian area, when he was run over by the car driver by the man.
The young man could not make it and was declared dead on the spot, due to the injuries he received, Brig Al Naqbi added.
